Hair loss can be confusing to figure out by yourself. You might see more shedding, a wider part, or hair that feels thinner, but the cause is not always clear. At Zen ReGen in East Sac, we begin by finding out what could be causing your hair loss and checking if your follicles are healthy enough for treatment. Then, we create a personalized plan that may include PRP Hair Restoration, Fotona HAIRestart®, prescription therapy, or a combination that fits your needs.
Diagnosis-first, integrative hair restoration
PRP, Fotona HAIRestart®, and prescription therapies
Thinning hair, increased shedding, receding hairlines, and reduced hair density
Minimal to none, depending on the treatment
Healthier follicles, stronger existing hair, and improved growth over time
Hair loss treatment is a broad term. There is no single procedure or medication that works for everyone, since hair loss happens in many different ways.
Androgenetic alopecia, or pattern hair loss, is the most common. Genetics and hormone sensitivity gradually cause certain follicles to produce finer, shorter hairs. Telogen effluvium causes increased shedding and can happen after illness, childbirth, significant stress, surgery, or another major change in the body. Autoimmune and inflammatory conditions such as alopecia areata, lichen planopilaris, and central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia can affect follicles in very different ways and may require medical treatment beyond routine hair restoration.
This is why it’s important to find out what type of hair loss you have. Two people might have hair that looks similarly thin but need very different treatments.

During your consultation, we work together to understand your situation. We’ll discuss when you first noticed changes, if they happened slowly or quickly, where you see thinning, your family history, medications, health changes, stress, nutrition, hormones, scalp symptoms, and anything you’ve already tried.
We also look at the condition of your scalp, the pattern of hair loss, your existing hair density, and whether the follicles in the affected areas are still active.
This is also a good time to mention any treatments you’ve tried yourself, like supplements, topical minoxidil, or changes in your diet, hairstyles, or hair care. Sharing this helps us see what might work for you and what likely won’t.
If you’re not sure whether your hair loss is temporary, progressive, caused by breakage, or another type of alopecia, a consultation can help you get clear answers and a good place to start.
Having different treatment options gives us flexibility, since each one helps restore hair in its own way.
PRP Hair Restoration uses platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood. After a small blood draw, the PRP is separated and injected into targeted areas of the scalp, where concentrated growth factors help support active hair follicles and healthier growth cycles.
PRP is often a good fit for men and women with early to moderate thinning who still have functioning follicles. It may help improve hair thickness, reduce shedding, and support natural hair regrowth without surgical procedures.
Fotona HAIRestart® is a non-invasive laser therapy for the scalp. Fotona SMOOTH® energy creates controlled warmth within the tissue to support circulation, scalp health, and follicle function without breaking the surface of the skin.
This treatment is especially helpful if your hair feels thinner, weaker, or less dense. There are no injections and no downtime, so HAIRestart® can easily fit into your overall hair restoration plan.
Prescription Hair Loss Therapy lets us address the causes of ongoing shedding or thinning from the inside.
Medication is selected according to your type of hair loss, health history, age, hormone environment, tolerance, and goals. If you have already tried common hair-growth products such as minoxidil, let your provider know what you used, how long you used it, and whether you noticed any change.
Prescription therapy can be used alone or together with PRP or HAIRestart® if treating hair loss in more than one way is helpful.
The benefits depend on what’s causing your hair loss and which treatment you use. A well-planned hair restoration approach may help you:
If your hair loss is getting worse over time, starting treatment while your follicles are still active usually gives us better results.
You don’t have to decide on a treatment before your visit.
PRP delivers regenerative growth factors directly to the scalp. HAIRestart® uses laser therapy to support the scalp environment and follicle activity. Prescription treatment can address biological factors involved in continued hair loss. Some patients benefit from one approach, while others may do better with combination therapy.
There are also situations where these treatments may not be the right answer. Permanent hair loss caused by destroyed or scarred follicles may require a different approach. Hair transplant surgery, including follicular unit extraction or follicular unit transplantation, redistributes existing donor hair and falls into a different category of hair restoration.
Finding out where you fit among these options is one reason an evaluation is so helpful.
You might want to get your hair checked if you notice a wider part, a receding hairline, thinning at your temples or crown, more shedding, or hair that feels finer than before.
Many people come in early just because something feels different. You don’t need to wait until hair loss is severe to ask for help.
Some kinds of thinning respond better to nonsurgical treatments than others. Whether you’re a good candidate depends on your follicle activity, the cause of your hair loss, your health, and how long you’ve had the problem.
What your treatment is like will depend on your plan.
PRP appointments involve a blood draw followed by a series of small injections into the scalp. HAIRestart® is completely non-invasive and generally feels like gentle warmth as the laser moves across the treatment area. Prescription therapy does not involve an in-office procedure, but it does require appropriate medical selection and follow-up.
If combination therapy is right for you, we can schedule treatments to fit your routine and adjust them based on how your scalp and hair respond. We only add treatments when they are truly helpful.
Hair restoration usually doesn’t interrupt your daily routine much.
After PRP, the scalp may be mildly red, tender, itchy, or sensitive for a day or two. HAIRestart® has no formal recovery period, and patients can generally wash and style their hair and return to normal activities the same day. Prescription therapy has no procedural downtime, although your provider will discuss medication use, possible side effects, and any monitoring that may be appropriate.
Your aftercare instructions will be based on the treatment or combination of treatments you get.
Hair grows slowly, so results take time. You might see less shedding before you notice new hair growth or thicker hair.
Zen ReGen’s hair restoration treatments work gradually as follicles move through their normal growth cycles. HAIRestart® and prescription therapy may begin producing noticeable changes within the first few months, while PRP patients often start seeing improved thickness and reduced shedding around the three-month point.
Results also depend on your diagnosis, starting hair density, follicle activity, age, health, and how consistent you are with treatment. Progressive conditions like androgenetic alopecia may need ongoing or occasional maintenance to keep your results.
Zen ReGen was founded by board-certified dermatologists Dr. Cindy Chambers and Dr. Raja Sivamani, and our approach to hair restoration reflects that dermatology background along with our focus on regenerative medicine and whole-body health.
We consider hair loss from both the outside and the inside. We look at your scalp and follicles, but also your health, hormones, nutrition, and lifestyle, since all of these can affect hair growth.
Most importantly, we build your plan based on what we learn about you. PRP, HAIRestart®, and prescription therapies are options we use only when they fit your needs, not as a one-size-fits-all package.
Hair loss can feel very personal, especially if you don’t know why it’s happening or if it will keep going. Understanding the cause can make it much easier to decide what to do next.

There isn’t one effective treatment for every type of hair loss. The right approach depends on the diagnosis, follicle activity, overall health, and how advanced the thinning has become. Your plan may include PRP, HAIRestart®, prescription therapy, or another form of medical care.
Sometimes. Hair can regrow after temporary shedding, and active follicles may respond to treatment by producing stronger or thicker hair. Follicles that have been permanently damaged or destroyed are much less likely to respond to nonsurgical treatment.
It can be. Men and women often develop different patterns of androgenetic alopecia, and hormonal factors, medication choices, health history, and individual goals can all affect treatment.
Neither is automatically better. PRP delivers concentrated growth factors directly to the scalp, while HAIRestart® uses controlled laser energy to support the scalp and follicle environment. Your provider may recommend one or combine them based on what is causing your hair loss.
Yes, when appropriate. Combination treatment can be useful when different therapies have different jobs within the same treatment plan.
Most hair loss treatments need several months before you can fairly judge hair regrowth or changes in density. Hair follows a slow natural growth cycle, so consistency is important.
That depends on the cause. Temporary hair loss may resolve, while hereditary and other progressive conditions often need some form of ongoing treatment or maintenance to help control further hair loss.
Typically, hair loss treatments will require ongoing management that will include a shift in lifestyle as well.
